Social Justice Studies - Gender Studies

The Social Justice Studies - Gender Studies Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer prepares students to transfer to CSU campuses and/or other colleges/universities that offer bachelor's degrees in Gender Studies; Sociology - Concentration Race, Class and Gender; Critical Race, Gender and Sexuality Studies; Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies; and Women's Studies. The Social Justice Studies - Gender Studies Associate in Arts Degree for Transfer allows students to gain knowledge and experience to work with culturally-diverse populations, and to understand how social justice issues affect various communities. An associate's degree is intended to lead to transfer to colleges and universities offering bachelor's degrees in Social Justice Studies. Students earning this degree may transfer and pursue bachelor's degrees and career pathways including women's studies, social work, education, government services, human rights, immigration, child advocacy, environmental justice, criminal justice, disability rights, health care, and more.The Associate in Arts in Social Justice Studies for Transfer degree is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer into the CSU system to complete a bachelor's degree in Social Justice Studies and related majors. The following is required for all AA-T or AS-T degrees, and there are no additional graduation requirements: (1) Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following: (a) The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education Breadth Requirements. (b) A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district. (2) Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. (3) ADTs also require that students must earn a C or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A P (Pas s) grade is an acceptable grade for a course in the major only if the P is defined to be equivalent to a C or better. This degree requires a total of 18-20 units in the major, in addition to other degree requirements.
